"The Newman Real Estate Institute hosts a conference focused on New York City’s proposed plan to develop the Far-West Side of city including the plan to build a stadium.
The conference examines the findings of The Hudson Yards Plan of the City of New York Draft Generic Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)created by the NYC Department of City Planning and the Metropolitan Transit Authority.
Impacts and alternatives to such major development objectives are explored in a series of short presentations including a panel discussion using the EIS as a guide.
Students and faculty from Columbia, Harvard, Princeton and City University of New York were invited to work on creating ideas and plans for the Far West side of New York.

Henry Wollman, Director at the Steven L. Newman Real Estate Institute hosts the conference. Albert Appleton, Senior Fellow at the Regional Plan Association and the CUNY Institute for Urban Systems serves as the Conference Moderator.The topic of assessing development impacts is explored in a series of 15 minute presentations by: Andrew Zimbalist, Professor of Economics at Smith College; John H. Alschuler, Jr., President of Hamilton, Rabinovitz & Alschuler Inc.; and Charlie Johnson, President of Johnson Consulting.

Development impacts are further explored by Jeffrey L. Greene of Orth-Rodgers & Associates, Inc.; Reed Super, Senior Attorney at Riverkeeper; and Walter Mankoff, Chairman of Community Board 4.Alternative development approaches to the proposed plan are explored in short presentations by: Eric Goldstein, Urban Programs Director of the Natural Resources Defense Council; Meta Brunzema of the Hell’s Kitchen Neighborhood Association; Frank E. Sanchis III, Senior Vice President of the Municipal Art Society ; and Christopher Jones, Sr. Vice President of Research at the Regional Plan Association.

The conference keynote address is presented by Betsy Gotbaum, Public Advocate for the City of New York. Another alternative development approach is presented by Henry Wollman and Charles Lauster of the Newman Institute.The conference closes with a panel discussion exploring points of agreement and divergence. Panelists include: Theresa Devine, Senior Economist of the Independent Budget Office; Anna Hayes Levin, Co-chair Community Board 4; Steven Malanga, Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institute; James Parrott, Deputy Director of the Fiscal Policy Institute; and Ellen Posner, Coordinator of the CUNY Urban Consortium."
